Denmark Castle & Manor House Self-Drive Tour

This is a self drive tour suggestion. Visit four of Denmark's most delightful Manor House hotels.

Itinerary

Pick up your mid size rental car, Audi A3 or similar, in Copenhagen. Drive north and visit the Louisiana Museum, Kronborg and Frederiksborg Castles and the village of Helsingor, before arriving at Sauntehus Estate for dinner and overnight. The estate and its castle is located in Hornbaek and is surrounded by an exceptional park with rare trees and bushes.

Leave time today to visit Roskilde and the Viking Ships Museum and sites. Continue on to the bridge to the island of Funen headed for Faaborg. Explore southern Funen before reaching Hvedholm Slot in Faaborg for dinner and overnight. This magnificent red castle was a royal seat in 1231.

Visit Odense and the home and museum of Hans Christian Andersen before crossing over to the island of Jutland. We suggest the middle route through Silkeborg and Viborg to Nibe (near Aalborg) for dinner and overnight at Store Restrup Manor House and Castle Hotel.

You may want to detour north to Skagen an artists' retreat, before visiting Randers and Aarhus on the way to Skanderborg and the Sophiendal Gods Manor House and Castle Hotel. Enjoy dinner and overnight.

A choice to day of either driving to Legoland, before returning to Copenhagen, or taking the ferry from Aarhus to Kalundborg and on to Copenhagen. Return you rental car.
