Arrive Alta – the City of the Northern Lights!

Meet with your pre-booked taxi at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Your driver will meet you in the arrival hall with a sign.

Evening: Hunting the Northern Lights tour

After picking up our guests from their hotels, we head straight to GLØD

headquarters for a briefing. We will also serve the Soup of the Evening. If you need some warmer clothes, we can arrange this too. By the way, all our guides speak English and one can even guide in German.

To optimize our chances of experiencing the Northern Lights, we head to areas with little or no light pollution. We travel by minibus in search of an area with starry sky and good views.If the weather conditions in Alta are poor, we head elsewhere. This may mean a drive of up to 200 km, either along the coast, fjords or in the inland of Finnmark. We make regular stops to check the conditions and, if conditions permit, take photos. We then gladly continue in search of new, exciting and nice locations,

either to find new photo subjects or – if the conditions are challenging – clear weather.We will serve snacks and hot chocolate during the tour.

The duration of the tour is 4.5 to 6 hours, depending how challenging the hunt is.

ALTA – SORRISNIVA - DOG SLEDDING & REINDEER SLEDDING!

Morning:

Notes: Guests are asked to leave their luggage in the secure luggage room of your hotel in Alta. A small overnight bag is all you will need with your essentials. This should include thermal underwear, pullover, a warm comfortable hat to sleep in, warm socks and toiletries. The Igloo Hotel will provide you with warm sleeping bags and sheets, as well as additional clothing if necessary. Met you staff from Sorrisniva.

Get ready for 3hrs. Dog Sledding tour along the Alta River. Enjoy!

There is a reason why so many dog mushers call Alta home. Come, join us for a ride and let our huskies tell you why. Our lodge lies only 10 minutes by car outside of Alta city centre, surrounded by pristine Arctic nature. The perfect place to become a musher for a day. While the huskies love to run in frigid temperatures, we’ll equip you with a thermal suit to keep the cold at bay. But don’t fear the winter – bask in its beauty. The frozen landscape is like nothing you’ll ever see, glittering in the sunlight and bathed in shades of blue, pink and purple during the light of the polar night. Feel the kiss of the cold on your cheeks and listen to the silence of the vast Arctic nature. You will be provided with the necessary clothing before the trip.

Safety instructions will be given on how to handle a dog team

About 60 minutes dog sledding (possibility to switch between being a driver and a passenger)

After the trip it will be possible to help with the dogs, take pictures and the guide tells a little about life with huskies followed by easy serving in our Lavvo. After the dog sledding the staff will transfer you back to Sorrisniva. Upon the arrival check in and enjoy surroundings, walk inside of the hotel and take photos of ice sculptures.

Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel is the world’s northernmost ice hotel and is approximately 2500 sqm large. All exterior and interior is made of snow and ice – even the glasses in the bar! The hotel has approx. 30 rooms which are uniquely decorated.

Inside the hotel you’ll also find a main gallery, an ice chapel and an ice bar. The decoration and the pure white snow create a magical atmosphere inside. The main wooden building in Sorrisniva contains a large restaurant, locker rooms, toilets, shower, sauna, lounge with fireplace, luggage room and reception.

Evening: After dinner meet the guide and departure for a 2,5 hrs. Reindeer & Sami Experience.Two people share one sled while the reindeer lead you along a pre-made track.An exciting and quiet nature experience in the Arctic winter darkness in the evening. Meet the Sami guide and his reindeers. Sitting in a reindeer sled they will take you out looking for the Northern Light. Along the way they will tell you stories from the Sami culture and legends about the Northern Lights. Returning to the Igloo Hotel

Enjoy breakfast in the restaurant at Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel.

Morning: Departure 4 hrs Snowmobile Safari ( 2 person per snowmobile)

Notice: remember to bring your driver licence! Feel the thrill driving through varied landscape in the forest, over the wide white plateau and across frozen lakes. Experience the total silence when stopping on

the plateau and the ever-changing Arctic winter light conditions. Choose to drive your own snowmobile or share it with a friend. This experience goes from Sorrisniva to Jotka Mountain Lodge located at the Finnmark plateau 30 km from Sorrisniva. The light changes dramatically during the winter season from the polar nights to the dazzling sunshine as spring approaches. No matter when you go it will be a memorable experience, especially once up on the Finnmark plateau with its wide, snow-covered expanse.At Jotka Mountain Lodge located at the Finnmark plateau 30 km from Sorrisniva you will enjoy a warm lunch. Return to Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel. The staff will transfer you back to Alta city.

Overnight at the Thon Hotel Alta

Enjoy a nice breakfast at your hotel. Your pre-booked transfer will meet at the front desk and take you to the airport for your flight to your next destination!
