Centerhotel Thinghold

Opened in December 2006 after extensive renovations CenterHotel Thingholt is located at Þingholtsstræti 3-5, next to Reykjaviks main shopping street, Laugavegur. The hotel is a Design/Boutique hotel with a strong focus on quality modern design, inspired by Icelandic nature, to give you modern conveniences in comfortable surroundings.

Stylish bars, cafés, restaurants, museums and shops are at your fingertips when staying at CenterHotel Thingholt.

The building, which originally accommodated the Ísafold printing factory from 1943, has now been turned into a Design/Boutique hotel and is a great example of Icelandic contemporary design.

CenterHotel Thingholt is designed by an Icelandic female architect, Gulla Jonsdottir. Gulla is working at Dodd Mitchell Design in Los Angeles and has taken part in designing hotels in the US like Crescent Hotel in Beverly Hills and Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Gulla describes her design in CenterHotel Thingholt as modern, yet classic, where natural materials and colors are used.

There are for example leather tiles on floors and salmon fish skin tiles on walls in the lobby. On the left hand side when entering the hotel there's a long black wall with lava like texture. Attached to it are black masks representing the hidden people of Iceland and a small waterfall trickling down over them.

Soon there will be even more art to enjoy. Future plans for the hotel involve Icelandic women artists making a piece for each room so that every room will be unique.
