Viinistu, Estonia

Viinistu is a small fishing village on the northern Estonian coast with a few hundred inhabitants. Recently it celebrated its 630th anniversary. During the Soviet period, Viinistu became an extension of the nearby Loksa industrial settlement, and a few unreasonably large industrial enterprises were built there. Some time ago the businessman and former foreign minister, Jaan Manitski bought the abandoned buildings and founded the first open private art museum in Estonia. The museum has a permanent exhibition of both classical and modern Estonian art; it has also been used for concerts, performances, theatre plays. A part of the art museum is the Island of Mohni.
