Tuusula, Finland

Tuusula is a green and culturally rich municipality in the greater Helsinki area, with a population of 36 000.

There are three distinctive centres; Hyrylä, in the southern part of the county, where the municipal offices are located as well as the northern centres of Jokela and Kellokoski. In addition, there are several traditional villages.

Tuusula has had a colourful history as an independent parish for over 360 years. Hyrylä grew around a Russian garrison. Kellokoski is a village that has maintained an idyllic atmosphere from the era of the old ironworks. It is also known for the manor house, which today houses the Kellokoski hospital. Jokela, which is located along the railway, is the northernmost centre of Tuusula. At the end of the 1800s Jokela became a bustling industrial town. Ponds, that were formed in clay pits and which are now used for recreation, are reminders of the time when several brick factories were located in Jokela.
