Nyborg, Denmark

Nyborg is an ancient fortified town in the Funen region. It is also known as Denmark's meeting place, and the eastern gateway to Europe's longest bridge.

Nyborg (18,500 inhabitants) is beautifully situated on the island of Funen, on the coast of the 18-kilometre wide Great Belt, where Europe's longest suspension bridge was opened in 1998.The town is fringed with woodland and has one of the island's finest bathing beaches.

Nyborg was once Denmark's administrative centre, and its historic royal castle, Denmark's oldest (from 1172), is visited annually by many thousands of tourists. Nyborg is known for its thriving cultural activity. The Nordic Piano Contest is held every third year in the Castle Banqueting Hall.
