Mahon is located on the Balearic Island of Menorca. The British style village that surrounds the sheltered harbor is no mistakethis was an important base for the British Navy in the Empires heyday. The island teems with reminders of the prehistoric past, stone monoliths and circles. There are also echoes of its Moorish occupation in the whitewashed villages and narrow lanes lined with stone walls. Legend says a French chef visited here and became enthralled with a local sauce made from eggs and oilcalled "Mahon"naise in French.
