LABRO

Labro is a unique town of less than 400 inhabitants. Located in the heart of Italy, atop a forested hill overlooking beautiful Lake Piediluco on one side and the slopes of Monte Terminillo on the other.

For more than a millennium, Labro has stood guard at the ancient border between Umbria and Rieti.

It is unique in recent times for its recovery and rebirth. In fact, Labro was the first ancient town in Lazio to undergo a complete restoration in the sense of conservation.

In the late sixties, when the town was almost completely deserted due to its inability to accommodate vehicles, it was "discovered" by a Belgian architect who undertook the bold and inspiring task of urban regeneration. This was at a time when so many old towns in Italy were being haphazardly "modernized".

Labro was restored using original forms and materials, thus resuscitating the authentic atmosphere of the medieval rock.
