Arkhangelsk is the capital of the Arkhangelsk region. It is a historical, industrial, scientific and cultural center in the North of Russia.

The city is situated, 1130 km from Moscow, in the northwest of Russia above the 64th parallel. Arkhangelsk stretches 35 km along the banks and islands of the Northern Dvina, where it meets the White Sea.
