Svinoya Rorbuer

Some of these original fishermen's "rorbu" cabins have now been refurbished to cater for the tourist of today. The old timber has been retained as far as possible in order to maintain the authenticity of these old buildings which were built before the turn of the last century.

Svinya is linked to mainland Lofoten by a bridge in the centre of the city, and is today an idyllic housing area. However, fish buying and processing still constitute the life nerve of the community. Between 100 and 200 fishermen deliver their catches here during the winter fishing season, for the production of salted fish and stockfish. The fishermen's "rorbu" cabins on Svinoya have been restored to a high standard. Each cabin is equipped with 2 to 6 beds, a well-equipped kitchen, and a modern bathroom.

You can hire a motorboat, and you can also hire bicycles in the centre of Svolvaer to explore the majestic sorroundings.

When you cross the bridge from Svolvaer, you will see the old white pier and shop on the right which has now been turned into our reception office. Our staff will be happy to assist you in planning an interesting and enjoyable holiday.
