Elite Hotel Knaust

Elite Hotel Knaust is situated on Sundsvall's very own "main street," Storgatan. There are 94 rooms in the hotel, and the building itself, which was built in 1890, is probably the most beautiful in town.

Elite Hotel Knaust is named after its founder, Gustaf Ferdinand Knaust, the first in the Knaust family who ran hotels in Sundsvall from 1860 until 1943.

The original building burned down in 1888 and Knaust's successor, Adolf Fredrik Knaust, took this opportunity to replace it with a first-class hotel in the Central European, Art Nouveau style, which gave the hotel its widely spread reputation.

The hotel opened on October 9, 1891, and there followed a golden age that lasted until World War I. Rich timber barons and royalty attended lavish parties at the hotel, which helped establish the hotel's reputation.

In 1978 the hotel was converted into offices and apartments. In 2001, Elite Hotels of Sweden took over the property and has restored the hotel to its former glory.

Business travelers and private guests can enjoy the proximity of Sundsvall's sights as well as a range of services at the hotel, including the Bishop\'s Arms Pub and an a la Carte restaurant as well as the hotel's own relaxation center. Elite Hotel Knaust opened its doors in September 2002.
