Wild Brown Bear Adventure

Wild Taiga area has a great expanse of untouched wilderness, which offers exceptional wildlife watching and photography. Under the guidance of a wilderness guide it is one of the best areas in Europe for seeing and photographing the rare large carnivores in their natural habitat. Meeting the ‘Wild Brown Bear’ in its natural environment, the Wild Taiga, is an unforgettable experience and of course for photography enthusiasts an opportunity to take the shot of a lifetime from the comfort and safety of our specially designed Bear hides. The ‘Brown Bear’ and other rare animals such as the wolverine or the wild deer can be viewed from one of our three specially designed hides.

Itinerary

 
Day 1     Kajaani - Kuhmo
Accommodation: Kalevala Hotel
Meals: Dinner

Arrival to Kajaani airport, transfer, appr. 1 hour to Kuhmo.

Accommodation to lakeside Hotel Kalevala.

Welcoming drink and dinner in the hotel restaurant.

 
Day 2     Kuhmo
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch

After breakfast introduction to the program. Short walk to Petola Nature Centre (large Carnivore centre), where exhibition “Predators on the prowl” - a permanent exhibition with comprehensive information on Finnish predators bear, wolf, wolverine and lynx. Info Section which presents a wide range of information related to many interesting aspects of large carnivores, library and free-access computers. Late lunch. At approx. 2.30pm transfer even closer to the Russian border for Bear Watching. (Departure time is earlier in August-September)

On the arrival to the main lodge, information about the hides and bears and also other animals which are possible to observe.

At 5.00p.m. start from the main building to the hides with the picnic packet, camera and binoculars.- “Wild Brown Bear adventure”. All hides are equipped with comfortable viewing chairs, sleeping areas and dry toilets. Hide offers a panoramic view of the site at a comfortable viewing distance. The hide site is situated in a small open wetland area with backdrop of spruce pine and birch forest. For photographers the site offers excellent photography opportunities, there is between twelve to sixteen hours of direct sunlight and two to four hours of twilight in the viewing season. Package includes refreshment and sandwiches in the hides, sleeping bags and a personal tour guide. Recommended equipment is clothes according to weather forecasting, binoculars, video and camera. Please notice smoking is not allowed during the night.

 
Day 3     Kuhmo
Accommodation: Kalevala Hotel
Meals: Breakfast / Dinner

Approx. 06.00am.-08.00am, after an interested observation night, transfer back to the Hotel Kalevala for breakfast. Free afternoon for optional activities or relaxing; hiking, fishing, bicycling...

Evening sauna and Jacuzzi Dinner.

For the evening tour we recommend our famous Elk safari, extra charge from $185 per person.

 
Day 4     Kuhmo - Kaajani
Meals: Breakfast

Transfer to Kajaani airport.
