This self-drive package offers you the chance to visit all four corners of Sörmland. A visit to Sörmland would not be complete without seeing such impressive sights as Gripsholm’s Castle, Tullgarn’s Palace and the archipelago haven of Trosa.

But don’t miss the chance to also discover Sörmland’s hidden gems – stop by Öster Malma’s magical manor house, island hop using Stendörren’s intriguing suspension bridges.

Accommodation at Trosa Stadshotell and Gripsholms Värdshus in Mariefred ensure a good night’s rest after a busy day’s sightseeing. Trosa Stadshotell is a recently renovated family-run hotel filled with genuine charm and atmosphere. Day 1     Stockholm

Arrive in Stockholm and check in at your hotel.

Day 2     Stockholm - Trosa
Meals: Breakfast / Dinner

After breakfast, pick up a rental car (not included)

Today you drive south from Stockholm towards Nyköping to visit Stendörren Nature Reserve, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful archipelagos in Sweden because of its distinct

feeling of peace and tranquillity in an unspoilt nature. Here you have the rest of the morning to hike across the many islands using their intriguing system of suspension bridges, or swim in the clean, refreshing Baltic waters. From Stendörren, you pass the

impressive 17th century Nynäs Manor House where you can enjoy a guided tour of the manor house or explore its grounds by foot. Your journey takes you through delightful surroundings; meadows, woodland and wonderful views across the archipelago waters.

En route, you can also stop at Sandvik beach for a quick swim in the sea before you continue your journey on to an archipelago restaurant where you enjoy a typical ‘archipelago’ dinner enjoying sea views.

Overnight at Trosa Stadshotell & Spa

 
Day 3     Trosa
Meals: Breakfast / Dinner

Breakfast at the hotel. Trosa is a charming 17th century town called 'the World's End' because it of its location on the banks of the Baltic Sea with endless views of the ocean all around. The little square, surrounded by old wooden houses, marks the centre of town and the walkway along the canal as it winds its way to the ocean is not to be missed.

After a visit to the village, you can also drive the short way to visit Tullgarn Palace, an 18th century palace located on the seashore with magnificent views of the Baltic waters. Tours are available of the palace, and a well-respected restaurant plus café are located at Tullgarn.

After a full day you spend one more night in your comfortable hotel at Trosa Stadshotell & Spa. Dinner included at the hotel.

 
Day 4     Trosa - Mariefred
Meals: Breakfast / Dinner

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning you continue your journey, enjoying the Swedish countryside at its very best; pine forests, sparkling lakes and open green fields. Soon you arrive at the beautifully located Öster Malma Manor, in the heart of Sörmland and overlooking Lake Malma. At Öster Malma, you can visit the Wildlife Park which is home to four moose, and fallow and red deer, not to mention a diverse birdlife. The enclosure is extensive and has footpaths and towers to help spot these majestic animals.

After lunch, you head back to the quiet country roads and drive along Route 223 where you can stop at leisure and visit the local farms and sights along the road to give you a genuine insight into everyday life in Sörmland.

Dinner tonight is at Gripsholm Vardhus Restaurant – a well-respected restaurant centrally located in Mariefred.

Day 5     Trosa - Stockholm
Meals: Breakfast

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning you explore the charming town of Mariefred, founded in 1605 and famed for its narrow, winding streets and colourful, wooden houses as well as being home to one of the most important and magnificent castles in the region, Gripsholm – a visit to which should not be missed.

Your day is free for you to choose among a wide range of day trips:

Opt 1: Lilla rundtur; Take the steamboat from Mariefred to Taxinge Manor - not only a beautiful manor house set in lovely surroundings but famous for its fantastic display of cakes. The steam train then takes you back from Taxinge Manor to Mariefred

Opt 2: Skeppsta Hytta ; learn more about glassblowing and try out this exciting and magical handicraft for yourself at Skeppsta glass studio

Opt 3: paddling; a canoe trip along the Marviken lake system to admire the unique character of the area thanks to its geological history - the mountain split in two and as a result Lake Marviken is today bordered by 50 metre high cliffs.

Opt 4: Julita Gård; Sweden’s largest open-air museum is a country estate preserved with all its exquisite interiors, parks, orchard, green house, kitchen garden, its own dairy, fire station, church, brickworks – in fact everything that was part of a large estate of that time.

Opt 5: Sparreholm Manor; home to one of Europe’s finest classic car museums with cars dating back to the beginning of the century, totalling 60 veteran and classic cars. There is also a bicycle museum, juke box collection, and more.

Opt 6: ‘annorlunda safari’; a unique chance to explore the real Sörmland. A trip using canoes and bicycles takes you to local farms where you meet and talk with the locals as well as experience Sörmland countryside at its best.

Return to Stockholm for overnight at Elite Eden Park Hotel.
