GOLDEN CIRCLE (190 km/118 miles)

Today travel to Thingvellir National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to Gullfoss waterfall, widely known as the Golden Waterfall in the Hvitá river with a height of 34 meters. The spectacular sight attracts tourists and travelers in summer and winter. Geysir geothermal fields contains a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools including the original geyser and Strokkur that erupts at 5-10 minutes intervals. Next stop is Kerið volcano crater and lake. Stay two nights in Selfoss or Hveragerði, South Iceland.

Day 3     Selfoss - Vik
Meals: Breakfast

SOUTH SHORE WITH WATERFALLS, LAVA BEACHES AND BIRD CLIFFS (285 km/177 miles)

There are many natural wonders along the South Shore in Iceland. We recommend walking on the black lava beaches near Vik, where even in winter birds nest in the high cliffs. Skógafoss waterfall is 60 meters high and one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country. Nearby you find one of Iceland's finest folk museums in Iceland with an outstanding collection of old farm implements and household articles in a new exhibition building and turf-built houses. Seljalandsfoss is a narrow but high waterfall, plunging over the mountainside into a shallow pool. You can walk behind the waterfall, but be prepared to get wet. You might also want to visit the Saga Centre Museum in Hvolsvöllur before returning to Selfoss/Hveragerði.

Day 4     Selfoss - Reykjanes Peninsula - Reykjavik
Meals: Breakfast

REYKJANES PENINSULA & BLUE LAGOON (190 km/118 miles)

Today discover the wonders of the Reykjanes Peninsula with old lava flows, the grand barrenness, ruff shore-side, spectacular breaking surf of the Atlantic ocean, hot spring areas, small fishing villages, light houses, the bridge over the continents and abundant bird life. If you like museums then there is quite a unique selection such as the salt fish museum in Grindavík, Reykjanes Heritage Museum, Vikingaheimar with the replica Viking ship Íslendingur, Duushús ship model & art exhibition and many more. Reward yourself after a day of exploring with a relaxing bathe at the famous Blue Lagoon. Overnight in Reykjavik.

(North American travelers will spend this day exploring the seashore villages of South Iceland, the geothermal town of Hveragerði with some hiking or horseback riding options, bathe at the Blue Lagoon and overnight in Reykjavik. The Reykjanes Peninsula program would then be on day 5 before afternoon flight to North America).
