Day 1     Copenhagen
Accommodation: Alexandra Hotel

Arrive by flight on own. Transfer from Copenhagen airport Kastrup to the hotel on own (not included). Copenhagen, the capital city of the kingdom of Denmark since 1417. Copenhagen is one of Europe's oldest capitals with a royal touch - the monarchy in Denmark is the oldest in the world! Copenhagen is a place where old fairytales blend with flashy new architecture and world class design. Copenhagen is also considered one of the world's most environmentally friendly cities and one of the world’s leading cycle cities. Most of the city's attractions can be reached on foot or bike, offering the opportunity to experience a lot of things in a short time.

Day 2     Copenhagen

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will join in on a regular “Copenhagen Panorama Sightseeing and Canal Tour” 2 hrs + boat 1 hour, departing from Vester Voldgade (by the City Hall Square): Discover the city in our glass bus that allows you an amazing view as you pass by many of the Copenhagen sights. See the many statues and landmarks, amongst others Tivoli, the Danish Parliament Christiansborg, the Round Tower and of course the Little Mermaid where you will have 5 minutes photo stop. You will also have ½ hour stop at Amalienborg Palace - residence of kings and queens – where you have the opportunity to enjoy the changing of the guards. Continue with a lovely canal tour around the harbour and through the idyllic canals where you will hear stories about Copenhagen's beautiful churches, castles, listed houses, modern architecture and many other sights. During the tour you will pass: The Opera House, the Little Mermaid, Amalienborg Palace, Amaliehaven, Christianshavn, Our Savior’s Church, the Black Diamond, the National Museum, Gammel Strand, Christiansborg Palace, Holmen’s Church, The old Stock Exchange, and the National Bank.

Day 3     Copenhagen - Helsingor
Meals: Breakfast

Breakfast at the hotel. At 10.30am - You will join in on a regular “Castle Combo Tour” (starting from Vester Voldgade by the City Hall Square), coach sightseeing and live guiding for 6½ hrs including entrance Frederiksborg Castle and Kronborg Castle: The tour is a great way of seeing the castles and countryside north of Copenhagen. You leave Copenhagen and travel up the Riviera road to Hillerød. As you travel along you have a beautiful view upon the Øresund Strait with the Swedish coast beyond. In Hillerød you will experience the inside of the magnificent Frederiksborg Castle (entrance) where our visit includes the National History Museum´s royal art collection, the Chapel of Orders and the Knight´s Hall. From here the tour continues past the Royal Family´s summer residence, Fredensborg Castle where a quick photo stop is made. After this we drive to Helsingør (Elsinore) where you will visit the impressive Kronborg Castle (entrance), the setting of Shakespeare´s play "Hamlet". The castle was build between 1574 - 1585 to protect Danish interests and to collect tolls from ships passing through the narrow strait. The tour is live guided on the bus, however the guide will not be following you into the castles.

Day 4     Copenhagen

Optional Tour – not included: Full day tour to Odense at Funen:

In the morning, go to the train station in Copenhagen to take the train towards Odense and drive by train over one of the world’s largest suspension bridges constructed off-shore and arrive on the island of Funen and Odense, Denmark’s third largest city and Hans Christian Andersen’s home town. Arrival at Odense train station – Meet your local English speaking guide at the train station to start your 8 hours tour of Funen by private car (driver guide). The humble house, where HC Andersen was born in 1805, has been turned into a museum dedicated to the world famous fairy tale writer (entrance included - please note closed on Mondays from 01.05-28.06 + 31.08-13.09). Odense is all about charming high streets, lots of museums and activities, Odense Zoo, lovely green parks and much more. Drive to Kværndrup and Egeskov Castle (entrance included), which is the best preserved water fortress in the world, with its rounded towers, double gables, red brick walls, green torrents and spire, built on a foundation of oak piles rammed into a bed of a lake more than 450 years ago. Today it is a family owned castle which has belonged to the family Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille since 1784. Visit the Great Hall which dates back to 1554 and contains furniture and paintings as well as seven adjoining rooms. Enjoy the 40 acres park with hundreds of aromatic plants and herbs and visit the old-timers Museum. Continue your tour to Broholm Castle (outside visit), a fascinating odyssey through almost 700 years of Denmark's history from Christopher, 2 to Margrethe the 2nd, with the intervening 29 kings and 1 queen as players or extras in Ulfeldt'ernes, Skeel'ernes and Sehested'ernes saga. Broholm is still a private land and forestry, but the main building and the antiquities museum is now open to the public. Broholm is extremely idyllic with a park and manor house lake. Apart from Castle Lake lies the museum "Chamberlain NFB Sehested Prehistoric Collection" of 60,000 antiquities, which is now owned and operated by Svendborg & Environs Museum. The tour terminates at Nyborg/or Odense train station where you will take the train 2nd class back to Copenhagen. Accommodation at Hotel Alexandra, or similar

 
Day 5     Copenhagen - Oslo
On Board the M/S Crown of Scandinavia

Breakfast at the hotel. Morning free for leisure in Copenhagen. Transfer on own from the hotel to the DFDS pier for embarkation on your overnight cruise, sailing slowly towards Oslo (departure at 4.30pm and check in between 3.15pm and 4.15pm). Entertainment and restaurants are on board.

Day 6     Oslo
Accommodation: Comfort Hotel Borsparken
Meals: Breakfast

Breakfast on board DFDS. Arrival in Oslo at 9.45am and proceed directly on your 3 hours and 45 minutes regular public “Oslo Selected Highlights Tour”, departing from the DFDS pier (room for luggage on board the coach). Tour: Bus + a bit of walking. Description:  This is a half day sightseeing tour with many of the most beautiful and interesting sights the Norwegian capital has to offer: The city center of Oslo, the Vigeland Sculpture Park, the ski jump at Holmenkollen (Photo stop) and the Viking Ship Museum (entrance included). From Bygdøy return to the city center by bus.

Day 7     Oslo - Flam - Gudvangen - Bergen

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning you will depart for one of the most beautiful trips in Europe; the Norway in a Nutshell tour. Transfer on own from your hotel to the central train station in the morning to depart from Oslo by train. This unique and popular excursion takes you through some of the most magnificent scenery to be found on the west coast of Norway. Today skilled workers, effective equipment, tunnels and snowtunnels make the railway one of the safest and most comfortable ways of travelling between Oslo and Bergen. The journey on the Flåm Railway is regarded as one of the high points on the Norway in a Nutshell tour. The 20 km-long train journey from the mountain station of Myrdal and down to Flåm deep in the fjord takes around 55 minutes. On the journey you have views of some of the most magnificent mountain scenery in Norway with an ever-changing panorama of tall mountains and thundering waterfalls. Along the Flåm Railway the train moves slowly or stops at the best views. Continue your journey by boat from Flåm and the Aurlandsfjord and into the Naeroyfjord, the narrowest fjord in Europe. The Naeroyfjord is now included on UNESCOs famous World Heritage List. Surrounded by mighty mountains of up to 1,800 metres high, this branch of the Sognefjord is amazingly beautiful. On the journey there are views of the small traditional farms. Following the coach journey up the steep and spectacular hairpin bends of Stalheimskleiva. The road up to Stalheim Hotel has 13 steep turns. After enjoying the wonderful views of the Stalheimsfossen and Sivlefossen waterfalls, there is a short stop at the hotel to enjoy the views before the journey continues to Voss where you will change to train 2nd class to Bergen with arrival in the evening.

Breakfast at the hotel. Bergen is called ‘the city between seven mountains’ because of the many mountains surrounding it. At 624 metres, Mount Ulriken is the tallest of them. Bergen was one of the major hanseatic cities in Europe and it has been a great centre of trade throughout the ages. Fish was exported from Bergen, while grain was the main import. The first German merchants came to the city already in 1270, and the powerful Hanseatic League existed until 1784, when it was disbanded. The Hanseatic merchants operated in the Bryggen area, which is now included on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Today you will join in on “The Bergen Express”, train sightseeing in 50 minutes: The excursion starts on the hour (every hour) from Bryggen, vis á vis the Hanseatic Museum, from where you will proceed through Kong Oskarsgate and through the old city gate. The tour continues past Hansa Brewerey and up to the hillside road "Fjellveien", where you have a fabulous view of the city centre and the harbour. A brief stop will be made at the "Fjellhytten" where you will have the opportunity to stretch your legs and buy refreshments. After about 10 minutes, we start descending through the picturesque small roads to "Mariakirken", "King Haakons Hall" and the "Rosenkrantz Tower", in order to reach the point of departure via the old wooden buildings of "Bryggen" and the fish market.

Day 9     Bergen - Stockholm

Breakfast at the hotel. Flight on own from Bergen to Stockholm (not included). Stockholm, one of the most beautiful capitals in the world, is built on 14 islands, connected by 57 bridges. The beautiful buildings, the green parks, the fresh air and the proximity to the water are distinctive traits of this city. With 750 years of history and rich cultural life, Stockholm offers a wide selection of world class museums and attractions. Most of the attractions can be reached on foot, and the many bus or boat sightseeing offer an opportunity for a wide variety of experiences in a short time.

Day 10     Stockholm

Breakfast at the hotel. Day free for leisure in Stockholm. Today you will join in on a Stockholm in a Nuthsell Tour which is a combination of a coach and boat tour. Start with a coach trip around the city, viewing the best known sites and buildings. After one hour and a half, we transfer to a boat to sail around the royal park of Djurgården and past the most inner archipelago islands. Sightseeing by bus: This guided sightseeing tour in Stockholm passes all the must-see attractions. City districts and famous sights such as Stockholm City Hall, The Royal Palace, Östermalm, Gamla Stan (Old Town), Långholmen and The Royal Djurgården are all parts of this tour. During the tour you will get to know Stockholm and history of the city. Sightseeing by boat: Depart from Strömkajen in the centre of Stockholm going out through the Djurgården canal. Leaving the inner city behind, we'll pass beautiful and famous buildings as we enter the peaceful Djurgården canal. When we head home, a fabulous view of the Stockholm skyline opens up – only to be seen from the water!

Day 11     Stockholm - Kalmar

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, train 2nd class from Stockholm to Kalmar (1 change of train en route). Kalmar was once one of the most important towns in the North. The historical past is an integral part of the character of the city. Kalmar Castle, the Old Town and Kvarnholmen tell the tale of mighty Kings and Queens as well as commoners. Traces of the past are found in architecture, cultural artifacts and art as well as in the well- worn cobblestones that pave the streets.

Day 12     Kalmar - Malmo

Breakfast at the hotel. Train 2nd class from Kalmar to Malmö (0-1 change of trains en route), a charming city where we recommend a visit to Malmöhus Castle which have been housing museum collections since 1926. In 1434 king Erik VII of Denmark had the castle of Myntergaarden built where the Malmöhus Castle stands today. Also remember to just enjoy the atmosphere of this historic city.

Breakfast at the hotel. Train 2nd class from Malmö to Copenhagen. If you did not make it erlier on your tour, we recommend to enjoy the Tivoli Gardens, Amalienborg Palace, the Christiansborg Palace (Danish Parliament), the Gefion Fountain, the old harbour ‘Nyhavn’, the Little Mermaid, the Round Tower, the museum of Carlsberg or one of the many other museums of art, culture, history and design. Also remember time to just enjoy the pedestrian shopping streets of Strøget and its surroundings.
