Narsarsuaq, Viking World Heritage, 5 Days

5 Days / 2 locations in Iceland and Greenland

A UNESCO World Heritage with historic sites from the Viking Age, the Inland Ice Cap, fertile mountains with sheep farms, deep blue fjords with multi-coloured icebergs and calving glaciers all around – and all of this within short range of your hotel. Welcome to Narsarsuaq.

South Greenland

With the recently awarded UNESCO World Heritage status, this tour invites you to delve into the fascinating history of the Vikings and visit the very spot where the Norse colonisation began more than 1000 years ago. Sail in the deep blue fjords and enjoy the sight of blue and white icebergs or go for a walk in the area, one of the tracks leads all the way to the Inland Ice Cap!

Narsarsuaq

Narsarsuaq is the gateway to South Greenland. Meaning ‘great plain’ in Greenlandic it is today the site of a small international airport.

Formerly a US airbase it is now a small settlement which is largely preoccupied working for the local tourism industry – primarily at the hotel and the airport. The area is offering a huge diversity of experiences from iceberg cruises, to easy hikes in a nearby valley or perhaps a full-day trek to the Inland Ice Cap. The area around Narsarsuaq is also Viking Country and there are numerous ancient remains from these first Europeans on the American continent.
