Land of Glaciers

Ilulissat Ice Fjord, Disco Bay, West Greenland

6 Days / 2 locations in Iceland and Greenland

The easy access to Greenland directly from Iceland makes it a great destination to combine with Iceland. As a part of the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Ilulissat Icefjord is probably the most popular tourist destination in Greenland. The town of Ilulissat is beautifully situated at the mouth of this fjord filled with enormous icebergs formed by the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere, Sermeq Kujalleq. About 4,000 people live in Ilulissat and around 6,000 sled dogs. This is an eloquent statement of the importance of the dogsled as a means of transport, even in a large modern town.

Experience the glacial beauty of this area with walking tours and a boat tour.

This tour can also be combined with the Volcanoes and Glaciers tour in Iceland for a perfect way to experience two incredible North Atlantic destinations.

Witness and discover the marvels of Mother Nature in its purest form!

Itinerary

Day 1     Reykjavik
Accommodation: Radisson Blu Saga Hotel

Arrival in Iceland.

On your own, transfer to Reykjavik. We recommend the easy and convenient FlyBus Plus transfers, which can be booked through Iceland Travel. If your flight lands early in the day, a great suggestion is to explore Reykjavík, the largest municipality in Iceland.

Ingolfur Arnarson, the first settler of Iceland, built his farm on the peninsula where Reykjavík stands today. The town got its name “Smokey Bay” after the columns of steam that rose from the hot springs in the area and made such a deep impression on the first settlers.

Dinner is on your own. Reykjavik offers a multitude of restaurants and/or coffee-houses, making dinner a great way to get better acquainted with Iceland's capital.

Please note guaranteed early check-in is not included in the price. Most hotels begin check-in around 14:00 (2:00pm).

Overnight stay in Reykjavík (airport transfer not included). Dinner is on own.

Very few places in Greenland are as beautiful as the Eqi glacier, thrusting out in a fjord north of Ilulissat. Sail to the very edge of the glacier’s frontline rising 80-90 meters (262 to 296 feet) above the surface of the ocean. Enjoy lunch on board, surrounding by majestic ice bergs.
