Itinerary

Day 1     Reykjavik
Accommodation: Reykjavik Natura Berjaya Hotel

Welcome to Iceland!

Arrival in Iceland. On your own transfer to your hotel in Reykjavik. Airport transfer is not included, but we are happy to help you arrange shared or private transfers.

Your Iceland experience starts when you turn on the hotel’s hot water—the water comes right from underground volcano-heated springs and heats most buildings in Iceland! The rest of the day is yours to enjoy Reykjavik. Perhaps you’ll visit one of the city‘s museums, several of which have exhibits for children. Or try some popular city treats like Icelandic hot dogs or ice cream.

Overnight in Reykjavík.

Dinner is on your own. Many restaurants offer special menus for children.

Day 2     Thingvellir - Laugarvatn
Meals: Breakfast

Glaciers and Ice Cave in Iceland exhibition - National Park with Geological Wonders –

Breakfast at your hotel. Meet your guide and travel companions. Start with a tour of Reykjavik, Iceland’s amazing capital. You’ll also visit the city’s innovative Glaciers and Ice Cave Exhibition at Perlan Wonders of Iceland museum. The exhibition illustrates the glaciers, their history and bleak future and gives visitors the amazing opportunity to experience travelling through a real man-made Ice Cave. The 360°Reykjavík museum & observation deck is included in the admission fee.

After getting to know Reykjavik, your family group heads to Thingvellir National Park (UNESCO World Heritage site) where Vikings used to meet every summer to make important decisions for the nation. This is also an interesting geological place: you can actually walk between the ridge that divides the European and North American continents!

Overnight in the Laugarvatn area for the next 2 nights. This village sits amid steam fields, and the locals use the steam for heating homes, swimming pools and even baking bread!

You’ll have the option (not included) of visiting the family-friendly Laugarvatn Fontana Geothermal Steam Baths and pools.

Day 3     Geysir - Gullfoss Waterfall
Meals: Breakfast

Breakfast at your accommodation. Today you’ll visit Icelandic farms and see how people live in the countryside! See a dairy farm and hear about the daily life of an Icelandic family who has farmed here for decades. You’ll learn about how the family makes cheese and ice cream from their cows’ milk. You’ll also get to meet “the girls“, the cows who provide the milk at the farm’s unique Ice Cream Barn. There will also be chance for you to taste some delicious farm-made ice cream. Your adventure continues to the geothermal fields of Geysir with its odd bubbling mud pools and the high-spouting Strokkur hot springs. Nearby is the dramatic Gullfoss waterfall, a spectacular sight in winter when frozen in mid-cascade.

This afternoon visit Fridheimar, an eco-friendly horse farm and greenhouse. The farm belongs to a family who all help with the farmwork. Take a tour of the greenhouses, where tomatoes and cucumbers are grown year-round, thanks to the energy from hot springs. Then visit the stables and meet some of the friendly Icelandic horses.

Dinner is on your own.

Day 4     South Georgia - Vik
Meals: Breakfast

Breakfast at your accommodation. Drive along the South Shore, an area of Iceland that is beautiful to view in the winter. This part of Iceland is home to the new Lava Centre, an interactive, high-tech educational exhibition depicting volcanic activity, earthquakes and the creation of Iceland over millions of years. Enjoy both the exhibit and viewing an interesting film about Icelandic volcanoes at the Centre‘s cinema.

Next, visit two waterfalls as you head east. Each waterfall has its own special look and story. The tour then heads to Vik town and the Reynisfjara beach. Take a walk on the black sands, admiring the extraordinary rock formations and thundering waves of the Atlantic Ocean. You might also catch a glimpse of rocks in the sea that Icelandic legends say were once trolls!

Overnight in the Vik area

Day 5     Hveragerdi - Reykjavik
Meals: Breakfast

Breakfast at your accommodation. Enjoy the beautiful Icelandic countryside with its glaciers and volcanoes as you head back to Reykjavik. There are fun activities planned along the way! Visit Hveragerdi, a town cradled by hot springs. Watch how eggs can be hard boiled using geothermal steam right from the ground. You’ll also chance to sample sweet rye bread baked in an underground oven. Visit the Quake 2008 Centre, which tells the story of a large earthquake that hit the town in 2008. Daring families can discover how an earthquake feels at the Centre’s earthquake simulator. Afterwards enjoy a relaxing swim at a local geothermal swimming pool.

The rest of the day is open for your own activities in the family-friendly capital of Iceland.

Overnight in Reykjavík.
