Another Iceland

West Fjords in Depth

10 Days / 7 locations in Iceland

SMALL GROUP TOUR, max. 16 people!

This unique escorted tour is a truly special exploration of Iceland's western most boundaries. This western wilderness is Iceland at its most remote, even by Icelandic standards. Many Icelanders haven't been there, and most members of the traveling public don't get there either. But now they can. This tour is ideal for visitors who have traveled Iceland's more well known roads and yearn to get a bit off the beaten path and experience another Iceland.

Icelands Westfjords region has been dubbed the most famous unknown place in Iceland. Add the prestigious European Destination of Excellence Award and Lonely Planet listing it as one of the 10 regions in the world to visit in 2011, you will see why the Westfjords are becoming increasingly famous or perhaps less unknown. Lonely Planet says that the oddly shaped peninsula is as isolated as it is spectacular.Luckily, isolated does not mean inaccessible. With only 7400 inhabitants in the region, each person has nearly a square mile of personal space, so there is ample room for visitors as well. While local culture is interesting, it is nature in the West Fjords that attracts visitors. It is untouched and almost uninhabited, and painted by the midnight sun during the summer. Life moves here on natures timetable. The cliffs and valleys are packed with birds, the uninhabited fjords offer silence and tranquility, and the Arctic fox proudly roams the mountains and inlets. The fjords are deep; the waterfalls are high and the streams pure. And there are places where there are no roads at all. Experiencing the West fjords is a different Iceland altogether. It is slow travel at its most exquisite. If you yearn to travel to places where most other people do not go, Another Iceland might be your kind of tour.

The tour is conducted in the opposite direction on July 1 and August 12.

This tour is conducted in English and French.
