Jurbarkas, Lithuania
The Jurbarkas region situated in the south west of Lithuania, stretches about 70 km against the Nemunas, the largest river in Lithuania. This region is often called the Nemunas land. The region takes up an area of 1509 square kilometers. In the south-western part by the Nemunas Jurbarkas borders with the Krasnoznamensk region, Kaliningrad province Russia Federation. The region is famous for its renaissance-style castles, manors and there parks, remained fragments of defensive line of the Nemunas, valuable Panemune landscape, unique cultural treasures: 24 historical, 35 archeological, 8 architectural, and 3 urban planning monuments, 6 manors, 54 inactive cemeteries and 89 artworks. Forests occupy 35 percent of the region. The most famous architectural structures are the renaissance style RaudonÄ Castle (end of the 16th century) and PanemunÄ (On the Nemunas) Castle (beginning of the 17th century). |
